  • OSI is the acronym for Other Supplementary Information.
  • SSR is the acronym for Special Service Request.
AFAX
  • Use the AFAX field to send and receive messages to and from American Airlines.  You also receive inbound messages from all carriers as an AFAX item.
  • AFAX apply to both OSI and SSR messages.  Begin the entry with 4 to indicate AFAX.
GFAX
  • Use the GFAX field to send messages to all carriers, except American Airlines.
  • GFAX apply to both OSI and SSR messages. Begin the entry with 3 to indicate GFAX.
OSI
  • Use OSI messages (Other Supplementary Information) when you do not require action or a reply by the carrier.
  • They are low-priority messages and are usually used for information purpose only.
  • Cancel or removal of OSI messages do not generate to the carrier.

Effect of Canceled Segment on SSR Message

  • The system automatically removes segment-associated SSR items from the active display portion of the PNR when you or the airline cancels an associated air segment.  The SSR entries appear in the history of the PNR after you end and redisplay the PNR.
  • The following items do not remove segment-associated SSR items:
    XK
Cancel an OA Segment without generating a teletype message
    WC
    Change a class of service
    WPNCB
Price and rebook the lowest fare in an appropriate class of service
  • If you made the SSR entry using YY instead of an airline code, the system does not remove it when any or all segments are canceled
Teletype Messages Returned by Carriers in AFACTS Field of the PNR
    • Carriers return teletype messages to the AFACTS field of the PNR.
    • These messages contain teletype codes.  To decode teletype messages and find definitions and descriptions of these codes, use the Trade Practice Manual Standard Interline Passenger Procedures (SIPP), published by the Air Transport Association of America for travel agencies.

AFAX / OSI - Send

This topic applies to all regions.

HideOverview and Guidelines

Overview

Use this format to send an other supplementary information (OSI) message to American Airlines. See Send OSI to Non-Air Associates.

Procedures and guidelines

  • OSI messages are items that do not require action or reply by the carrier.
  • You can send the message for all names in the Passenger Name Record (PNR) or add a name number to associate the message with a particular name. A name number followed by a .0 (point zero) refers to all persons in that name number field. Any name number not followed by a point number defaults to a point zero.
    Example:
    4OSI SPEAKS GERMAN ONLY-2
  • The maximum name reference numbers is 30. A single OSI item cannot have more than 30 names associated with it.
  • The maximum character-length of an OSI item is 70 characters excluding the name number references.
  • The maximum number of AFAX / OSI lines is 999.
  • The identification of the name number references is data that contains only commas, periods, or numbers following the last hyphen in the input message. This allows you to use the hyphen as free text in the field.

Format Definitions

  • Name number includes a (name field number).(surname or family name number).
  • The name field is the number that identifies the location of the name.
  • Passengers with an identical last name can share the name field number.
  • The surname or family name number identifies the name placement in the name field number.
Example:
*N
1.2MATHIS/P/J 2.2MILLER/R/V 3.1LEE/M
  • The name field number for the entire MATHIS party is 1.0.
    • MATHIS/P has a surname number of 1 so the complete name number for this passenger is 1.1.
    • MATHIS/J has a surname number of 2 so the complete name number for this passenger is 1.2.
  • The name field number for the MILLER party is 2.0
    • MILLER/R has a surname number of 1 so the complete name number for this passenger is 2.1.
    • MILLER/V has a surname number of 2 so the complete name number for this passenger is 2.2.
  • The name field number for LEE is 3.0
    • LEE/M has a surname number of 1 so the complete name number for this passenger is 3.1

4OSI GERMAN SPEAKER-1.2
or
4OSI GERMAN SPEAKER-1.2,2.3

GFAX / OSI - Send

This topic applies to all regions.

HideOverview and Guidelines

Overview

Use this format to send an other supplementary information (OSI) message to the carrier.

Procedures and guidelines

  • OSI messages are items that do not require action or reply by the carrier. The entry is not applicable to itineraries you booked on Basic Booking Request participating carriers. You must call these carriers directly for non-action information.
  • The space before and after the airline code is mandatory.
  • You should keep OSI messaging to a minimum to avoid Teletype rejects or editing by the carriers.
    • The maximum character count is 63 characters.
    • Avoid using the * (display) and / (slash) characters.
    • The maximum number of GFAX / OSI lines is 999.
  • GFAX/OSI messages transmit to the carrier only one time. This is when the original TTY (teletype) information is shipped from the Sabre system record.
    • Making itinerary changes for the original carrier (including cancel and rebooking of segments) does not send additional TTY messages to the carrier.
    • This includes reservations cancelled by the airline for whatever reason.
    • If you need to re-transmit new GFAX/OSI information to a carrier:
      • Delete the original item.
      • End the record.
      • Re-display the PNR.
      • Re-enter the GFAX/OSI information.
      • End the record again. This causes TTY to recognize the GFAX/OSI as new information, sending it to the carrier(s) to which it applies.
  • If you delete a GFAX item, the system does not send a message to the carrier.
  • Since OSIs can apply to more than one person, but not necessarily all passengers in a PNR, the OSI entries can include a name number from the name field of the PNR.
    • A name number followed by a point zero (.0) refers to all persons in that name number.
    • Any name number not followed by a point number defaults to a point zero (.0).

Send OSI message to all carriers in the PNR:
3OSI <space> YY <space> (free text)
3OSI YY SPEAKS FARSI ONLY-1.2
Note: If you use YY in a PNR containing segments booked on Basic Booking Request Carriers, the system adds the YY but does not transmit a message to the carrier.

SSR and OSI in Field AFAX / GFAX - Delete

This topic applies to all regions.

HideOverview and Guidelines

Overview

Use these formats to delete GFAX from your Passenger Name Record (PNR).

Procedures and Guidelines

  • When you cancel a Special Service Request (SSR/OSI) GFAX item, the Sabre system generates a teletype message to the carrier.
    • However, the processing of the cancel message for the SSR item varies, depending on the carrier's capabilities and procedures.
    • Also, if a carrier sends a cancel of an SSR item, the system automatically moves the item into history and displays in the history with an action code of XX.
  • You can delete a maximum of 51 AFAX or GFAX items in one entry.

This topic applies to all regions.

HideOverview and Guidelines

Overview

Use these formats to modify AFAX and GFAX in your Passenger Name Record (PNR).

Procedures and Guidelines

  • When you modify a Special Service Request (SSR) GFAX item, the Sabre system generates a Teletype message to the carrier. Processing of the cancel message for the SSR item varies, depending on the carrier's capabilities and procedures.
  • If a carrier cancels a SSR item, the system moves the item into history and displays in the history with an action code of XX.

Name Reference - Delete from GFAX or AFAX

This topic applies to all regions.

HideOverview and Guidelines

Overview

Use this format to delete specific name references from an existing OSI item instead of deleting the entire item.

Procedures and guidelines

  • If you remove all name references from an OSI item, the Sabre system removes the item from the PNR.
  • If you specify name numbers that are not associated with an item, the system ignores those name numbers and continues with the processing. The system processes the entry only if one or more of the specified items is name associated.
